LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognised system for evaluating and awarding environmentally friendly, energy-efficient and sustainable buildings. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the system is based on the holistic assessment of a building, taking into account aspects such as water consumption, choice of materials, air quality and innovation in addition to energy efficiency. Buildings that receive LEED certification meet strict criteria in terms of sustainability and help to minimise the environmental impact of construction projects. The certification contributes to the creation of buildings that meet the requirements of the Green Deal by promoting the transition to a more sustainable and climate-friendly economy. It is used worldwide in various sectors such as residential, office and industrial buildings and is a significant component of global sustainability strategies.
