BREEAM

BREEAM certification (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is an internationally recognised system for assessing the sustainability of buildings. It was developed in 1990 by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) in the UK and is one of the oldest and most widely used certification systems in the field of sustainable construction. BREEAM assesses buildings in various categories such as energy efficiency, resource conservation, water consumption, choice of materials, waste management and user comfort. Depending on the number of points a building achieves in the individual areas, it is awarded different levels of certification, from ‘Pass’ to ‘Outstanding’. BREEAM supports the transition to a more sustainable construction industry by promoting the integration of renewable energy and environmentally friendly technologies into the construction process. The certification also contributes to achieving climate targets and reducing CO2 emissions. In many countries, BREEAM is used as a benchmark for sustainable construction, both for new buildings and for the renovation of existing buildings.
